Amalfi is one of the four Maritime Republics (Genoa, Venice and Pisa) and had its maximum splendor between the tenth and twelfth centuries. Nowadays it is the heart of the Amalfi coast and is home to tourists from all over the world. Every four years in June there is the famous “Historical Regatta of the Four Maritime Republics”. The famous Duomo is the main attraction. Built in the ninth century, it dominates the city with its polychromatic façade and enamelled mosaics. The Amalfi paper, used in the Vatican, is of high quality and is the result of a century-old tradition. Amalfi is easily reachable by bus. The journey takes about 60 minutes and the service has a regular schedule. The bus stop is right outside the hotel entrance.
